I don't watch soap operas, but if what I think I know about them is true, then yes, this is very much like one. Everybody rattling off their scripted lines, plots continuing virtually endlessly from day to day, ritual villains, all of it totally fictional and intended purely for amusement, but some people taking it so incredibly seriously that they center their lives around it. Yep, that seems very accurate.
