he should win the next election with a landslide.<<

Unless there's an active war going on at that time, he also has to resurrect a moribund economy.

However the genius of an open-ended war on terrorism is that, long after actual terrorist attacks on Americans have ended, fresh enemy faces can be targeted to provoke fear and to get some to rally 'round the Prez.

In a year from now, we'll be able to get a clearer picture of the Presidential race by our economic condition than any
other factor, short of a 'hot' war.

But I enjoyed your posted article about the Asian politics playing out with the threat of terrorists used as a strategy.

I wonder if there'll come a point when folks will get desensitived to terror threats because of political overuse, which can be akin to crying wolf.

Missing Iraqi diplomat found in Moscow

Interfax. Tuesday, Sep. 17, 2002, 6:45 PM Moscow Time

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - An Iraqi diplomat who went missing in Moscow a few days ago is back at the Iraqi embassy, Iraqi Ambassador Abbas Halaf said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

He said that the diplomat arrived in Moscow just recently and was in a criminal incident. He was "seduced by a Russian girl." He was found later "with a broken arm," the Iraqi ambassador said. Halaf said it was a banal incident and ironically remarked, "This diplomat did not defect to Americans."

/edit Hmmmm, I wonder if indeed that was actually how he got his arm broken..pb
