that was in the 40s and 50s.
You won't recognize it, up until the 1970s nobody went outside without a Resistol or Stetson. Now you only see one in a dance club. There are still a lot of Dairy Queens though.

Hi JohnM; (OT) Re Southern lingo. While there are a few phrases that are in common use, I think you'll agree that the more typical use is to make them up as you go along, for personal use only. Of course I have a few favorites that I'm the only person in the world that uses, AFAIK.

Dan Rather seems to think he has to use these things regularly

He "made his bones" reporting from Galveston during a major Hurricane that had caused the city to be evacuated. He is about as "Texan" these days as you.
