It's not about growth Jim. The whole debate has been about
America's best places to live. The various ratings
organizations repeatedly put Pittsburgh at or near the top year after year.

That doesn't make any other city a bad place. It just means
that Pittsburgh is a good place to live.

"the water quality has improved, true
from toxic to now undrinkable in 30 years"

Um, almost every municipality along the rivers use them for
their sole source of drinking water. Fish that cannot
tolerate pollution now thrive in all three rivers in the
Pittsburgh area (walleye & sauger to name two). How do you
explain that?

"you advised me not to intake any Ohio River water last summer I would not dip my hand into the Monongahela River
but the Allegheny River is nice, upstream a few miles"

Local officials issued that advisory after many days of
rain. It was the severe runoff that caused some sewage
treatment plants to overflow & spill into the river causing
a temporary warning to be issued. It had absolutely
nothing to do with the overal quality of water in our
rivers.

"you like the city, despite living 30 miles north of it
if you like it so much, move back into it"

I live less than 25 miles from downtown Pittsburgh by road
(less than 20 as the crow flies). I live in the heart of
Metropolitan Pittsburgh, right where I choose to live.

'let's drop this"

OK, I'll quit when you quit ;-)
