"If Iraq is a minor problem to us, and other things are major problems for us, makes no sense to me to send our troops halfway around the world to go after the minor threat."

I didn't say that I believe it is minor. I just agree that there are more devastating problems. Its a matter of picking your battles.

War with Iraq has all the right stuff for a politician. 1) It is win-able. 2) It would be an observable feather in the cap. 3) There are some economic benefits and we are suffering economically. 4) It has patriotic popular appeal for those who need a 911 eye for the eye.

5) The only justifiable reason is that Iraq "may" pose a direct threat. (Still need a preponderance of evidence).

I fully expect a rally in the near future that brings a diplomatic resolution. A regime change would do it. The sad thing is we may not have anything substantially different with a regime change except satisfaction of 1-4 above.
