That's one of the problems with a word like conservative. Liberal is also a very flexible word. Liberal can be used to mean a supporter of maximum individual freedom and minimal government intervention, or it can mean someone who is very statist and wants higher taxes and more regulation. Conservative can mean someone who does not like change or it can mean someone like Ronald Reagan or Newt Gingrich who pushed for a number of changes and pushed through some of them. Thomas Jefferson has little in common with Ted Kennedy but both could be called liberals. Ronald Reagan has little in common with Mullah Omar but both could be called conservatives. Tim
