Merrill Lynch analyst Mark Lipacis widened his 2003 loss estimate for Vitesse (NasdaqNM:VTSS - News) to 10 cents a share from 6 cents. He cut his PMC-Sierra (NasdaqNM:PMCS - News) 2003 estimate to a loss of 4 cents a share from a profit of 1 cent. "We estimate that wireline communications inventories in the supply chain are at least 23 percent above normal levels when measured in days," Lipacis wrote. "Adding excess inventories increases this number significantly." At Prudential, analyst Hans Mosesmann cut his estimates for 14 companies, citing the "continuing challenging environment."
