Thu 19 Sept 2002 News Release
Mr. Patrick Evans reports
SOUTHERNERA''S MESSINA PLATINUM COMMISSIONS PHASE 1 CONCENTRA ... SouthernEra Resources has successfully commissioned the Messina platinum mine's new 90,000-tonne-per-month phase 1 platinum concentrator plant. Following cold commissioning of the concentrator plant by the construction company DRA, the plant was handed over to Messina platinum for hot commissioning on Sept. 12, nine days ahead of the scheduled Sept. 21 date. The concentrator plant commenced with hot commissioning on Sept. 13 and has been milling low-grade ore to prove the mill and test the float circuit mechanical and electrical systems. It is expected that the plant will progress to stockpiled normal plant feed during the course of the coming week. The new tailings dam facility received the initial milled tonnage and is on track for the scheduled completion date. Current indications are that the plant will show substantial savings over the budgeted 189 million rands ($18-million (U.S.)) with a projected final cost of 167 million rands ($16-million (U.S.)).
