Hmm. Would have to disagree. There is no distinct boundary between the conscious, unconscious and subconscious. Acts are simply complicated stereotypical behavior of a complex organism. Internal and external triggers are indistinguishable from the culpable agent's perspective. Remember the Manchurian Candidate? A bit Hollywood and hokey but the idea is interesting. If we put you in an environment where "normal" western values were absent (especially as a child), it is unlikely any amount of (de-, re-) programming would ever make you a mainstream American citizen.
