John, you really do amuse me. This borders on the silly.

Lacquer, as you write, is an expert on "terrorism". Which, of course, doesn't make him an expert on Islamism.

Isn't terrorism one of the principal concerns we have about Islamism? Do you really think that an expert on terrorism, who holds the Kissinger Chair at CSIS, is going to neglect Islamism?

You need to make these points known to The Atlantic and Partisan Review, whose editors felt that Laqueur was sufficiently qualified to write book reviews on Kepel's work and that of others in the field.

Did you read the Partisan Review article by Laqueur? It has considerably more heft than The Atlantic piece.

I have hung Kepel out to dry because everything I read about his Jihad book suggests that he believes that Islamism is on the wane. I agree with Laqueur, whose views you have misstated, when he says that Kepel is possibly correct, but that the decline of Islamism is going to take a lot longer than anyone thinks.

Why don't you do a little research on Laqueur? I think you'll be surprised.
