Can you name an application software product that has been successful for sunw? I know they have that sun soft division (or used to)... what did they do anyway? (serious question). I keep coming back to the java application server example, where sunw let IBM run away with the business, and thats platform technology. Sunw might need a new software division VP, or maybe the software guys have to work for that awful megageek chief engineer from the article?

IBM manages to combine both software and hardware offerings but I don't see any evidence that sunw can pull it off.

Admittedly their approach might be to partner with oracle, sap etc. which would be an ok approach. But giving away productivity software seems to be out in left field. If they partner, then the thing to do here would be to partner with adbe.
