Merrill Lynch Terminates Employment of Two Executives

NEW YORK, Sep 18, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. (MER: NYSE)
today said it has terminated the employment of two executives, Thomas W. Davis,
vice chairman, and Schuyler Tilney, a managing director in investment banking,
who have declined to testify in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange
Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice into financial transactions
initiated by Enron Corp. in 1999.

The company said that while it regretted the action, it was enforcing its policy
requiring employees to fully cooperate with regulatory and law enforcement
investigations.

Merrill Lynch said further that it is not aware of any evidence that its
employees acted improperly in their dealings with Enron. Merrill Lynch continues
to cooperate fully with all ongoing investigations.

i heard the president of verizon during an interview talking about having cut the capex nearly in half they still see a long, dry spell before they need to upgrade infrastructure. more capex spending cuts may be on the way.

huge debt overhang....declining revenues...not a pretty picture.
