" Looks like it was necessary from what we gathered from reports of them scurrying around prior to inspections, eh? Sounds like it was a multi- channel scanner box with an up-link to a big ear. Then I believe it must have been discovered and that’s when the fit hit the sham.It was too late for Saddam to act on what he did or did not know the monitors knew and thus the accurate targeting that followed immediately after the inspectors were pulled. Interesting this : “ They barred Scott Ritter, the American military officer who had led Unscom's earlier effort to unmask Iraq's covert weaponry and whom they suspected as a security risk. “ Could it be that he was opposed to the espionage effort and this is part of why he did his about face afterward? Seems likely and appears he was right that they might get caught and blow the operation. No doubt Saddam thought this was part of an attempt/plot to get him too. All begins to make sense when you think about it, but bottom line was if he didn’t obstruct, there may not have been a need to go that route in the first place. And this : “ Throughout 1996 and 1997, the campaign was an international effort, involving British, Israeli , Swedish, Polish and Australian officers and officials, among others. “ After learning the Israelis were in on it sure as heck didn’t help the situation afterward, did it? That in itself could be cause for Iraqi aggression towards Israel, and I believe he fears to this day that Israel is trying to take him out. During his opposing the inspections right up till last Sunday, he was calling for weapons inspections in Israel, but this was not broadcast as part of the problem to Americans.I found it on a European site. Cloak and Dagger…I love it :0
