The reason the Republicans hated (and still hate) Clinton so much is that he beat them at their own game: 8 years of peace and prosperity, balanced the budget, enacted welfare reform, was fiscally responsible, was not beholden to the military-industrial complex ... was the first president since Truman not to be shackled by a Cold War mentality. So what's the first thing that GWB did when he got elected? He surrounded himself with old Cold War warriors who can't function unless they're raiding our treasury to engage in yet another Cold War vs. some two-bit tinhorn dictator in Baghdad.
