The path you want to take and the path that is in your opinion morally correct are not
always the same paths.

And the path you eventually take may well -- perhaps usually is -- different from either of those.

"The path you want to take and the path that is in your opinion morally correct are not always the same paths."

In the end one must choose or become catatonic. They may indeed remain conflicted, but they will choose what to them (at the time) seems to have the highest value to them. How they choose value is highly individualized. Some have a strict religious background or moralistic parents; some are pragmatic; some are hedonists; and so forth.

Do I masturbate or do I not? For some it is a torment to try to resolve a conflict of values (the desire to be "good" and obedient versus the desire to have gratification and pleasure; the desire to "go to heaven" versus the Constantine rationalization that "I can be forgiven later"). For others it is a trivial question which has nothing to do with morality or God.
