It's because football (u call it soccer) is not the national sport.

People here do love their football. Wherever I went, in August, I would hear men saying, "it's almost football season" with the excitement that children have about Santa Claus. And we have a terrible team (Washington Redskins.) On Monday, while playing the Eagles, the police used pepper gas to break up a fight, and the ventilation system sucked it onto the Eagles bench. The team members were vomiting and choking, but they still beat the Redskins 37-7.

I like basketball, myself.

Steve, that's a good observation.

There is a TV show called Battle-Bots, which features duels
of fighting robotic devices. Now if we could just have the
George W-Bot versus the Saddam Hussein Bot, we could let them fight to a finish and if Saddam won, well there's always next week......(or vice versa)

Then it would mean that the matter of ensuring ongoing oil supply could be sent back to the milieu of:

-- diplomacy
-- negotiation
-- bribe
-- profit and loss statement
-- tax evasion

where it has always been (instead of putting the military once more in the servant of the money), where, I suppose, it has always been as well.

Namaste!

Jim

Steve as much as suburban aging hippie mommas don't want their sons to play that nasty Real Football game; and they want them to play that soccer thing, i can assure you soccer will never ever become our national sport in the U.S.
Why,Real Football is far more exciting.
Soccer, what is it, watching a bunch of blokes endlessly running around in shorts playing "kick the ball"?!. And it goes on and on and on and on. Maybe it would be more interesting if a goalie on failing to block a goal is taken to midfield and summarily executed by a firing squad, it might be more interesting; but i do not think so. Max

It's because football (u call it soccer) is not the national sport. One day it will be, then we will have World Peace.

Yes, but the wars will be in the stadiums no?
