VTSS and PMCS are 2 of the peers with serious survival problems IMHO. For slightly different reasons that is. AMCC, however, seems to have a lot of that stuff on which more than dreams of survival can currently be built. That includes cash, state-of-the-art technology, management-talent and - -ethics! BRCM lacks some of that, especially ethics seems to be at question. No additional management talent needed next to Nic III - that is by definition: your observation is probably right but thus irrelevant.
Look at MRVL for an emerging star though. Somewhat over-priced right now for my taste, however. They are out-brcming BRCM anywhere where active. A market-share predator WLAN is their next target
