You are right on there. Frozen with fear could explain his inaction I suppose. But what I can't accept is that if this is the case, then he was too inexperienced to be giving trading advice in the first place.

In effect he turned out the be no different than a tipster. The worst kind in fact. The kind that gives you a tip to buy but has no idea when to sell.

I think back to his smug attitude in the late days of the bull market when he was preaching the good word. Then what happened? He totally threw out everything he stood for to be tempted by greed at the worst time imaginable. A time when the risk was at a peak and he knew that he could get caught.

It's enough to make a priest shudder with despair.
