When the company proposed the pension revision, the first thing I did as union local vice president was to buy a few hours' time of the best tax attorney and best actuary in town. I also got on the phone to the international's top pension person. All three said emphatically: "Don't change what you've got." Our defined pension plan is fully funded. In fact, the overfunding is what the company had its eye on with the conversion. Yeah, JDN, I really felt bad denying some of the corporate suits a big, fat bonus for screwing the workers. These guys had to drive their Cadillacs another year instead of trading 'em in a new model.
