I see your point. Every situation is different and I do not have all the info on this one, so I am not convinced 100% in either direction. I do find it interesting that the division of opinion seems to be along political lines rather than on the basis of law or ethics alone. Seems to me that bill clinton's brother had some problems with cocaine and the repubs lines of arguement were reversed.

I agree perfectly.

If Bush had been advocating for treatent instead of punishment, and the legislature had been blocking him, I wouldn't see his action as hypocritical, but as saying "this is what I believe is best for all kids in this situation in this state, so this is what I'm going to advocate for my kid."

But when he says "your kid should go to jail for a long time for using drugs, my kid should go free for using drugs," that makes him a hypocrite.
