Mr. Ashcroft bends over backwards to protect the rights of his fellow gun guys in having gun purchase records destroyed after 24 hours instead of the six months allowed under the Brady act.

Is that illegal? The office of Attorney General is tasked to enforce the laws, in particular the federal laws. If the gun purchase records are REQUIRED BY LAW to be retained for six months AND if state laws do not override that, he is indeed doing something illegal.

Personally, I think that the second amendment rather guarantees the others. As a general rule, most dictators routinely disarm their citizenry before imposing other restrictions. Makes the masses more docile, you see. They can't fight back.
