Interesting article about Michael Robinson...some intriguing comments attributed to Michael Vick.

philly.com

Instead, Robinson seemed a perfect fit to succeed Michael Vick at Virginia Tech. Physically, he's practically a Vick clone. Like Vick, Robinson has remarkable speed. He's a Virginian, and Virginia Tech has risen to elite status. Robinson said Vick, in his second season with the Atlanta Falcons, and the Eagles' Donovan McNabb are quarterbacks he tries to emulate. So it all seemed so logical.

Yet, Robinson said, Vick discouraged him from choosing the Hokies.

"I had a couple of conversations with him, and he told me that Virginia Tech wouldn't get me ready to become an NFL quarterback," Robinson said. "He told me that if he had to do it all over again he might have gone to another school to get ready for the NFL."

Huh? Vick had a spectacular career at Virginia Tech. Played for the national championship. Was picked first overall in the NFL draft.

"Yeah, at first it surprised me when he told me that," Robinson said. "But it made me realize the kind of person he is. He told me the truth. A lot of guys would want a top recruit to come to their school, but he told me what he thought. I felt he was sincere."

Vick may have had an ulterior motive for dissuading Robinson. Perhaps he wanted to keep the Hokies' quarterback slot cleared for his brother, Marcus, who's now a freshman at Tech.

"Now that I look back, that's one thing I thought about," Robinson said with a laugh. "But who knows? Maybe he did, maybe he didn't."

After eliminating Virginia Tech, Robinson chose Penn State over Maryland. Like many others, Robinson felt that Penn State didn't take full advantage of Casey's talents, but Penn State's recruiters told him the offense was going to employ the option and the shotgun, that things were going to change.

MRobinson throws for a TD and is on the receiving end for another.

To hear some people talk, that could be just one play.
