HP Provides Channel Partners with Low-Price, High-Performance Desktop for Small and Medium Business Market Jump to first matched term PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2002--HP (NYSE:HPQ) is providing technology resellers, dealers and distribution partners with a low-cost business PC, the Compaq Evo D310v desktop -- priced at only
$469(1) -- for its small- and medium-sized business customers.

"The small- and medium-sized business market is the largest and fastest growing segment of the IT market," said Mike Larson, senior vice president and general manager, HP Personal Systems Group. "We are building a product and go-to-market SMB strategy around the expertise and value offered by our channel partners so that together we meet customer needs and increase market share. In addition, a branded product at this price provides our many channel partners an alternative to Dell's proposed white box strategy."

As part of its efforts to tap the more than 7.3 million SMB accounts in the United States, HP is working closely with its partners to satisfy customer needs. The Compaq Evo D310v desktop PC is the latest offering from the company as part of this strategy, which began with the introduction of the Compaq Deskpro EX Microtower in September 2000 prior to the launch of the Evo commercial desktop line in May 2001.

HP also is working closely with distributor partners -- Tech Data, Ingram Micro and Synnex -- to deliver products, services and solutions to the growing SMB market. For instance, HP is a vendor partner of Ingram Micro's Venture Tech Network, targeting the distributor's primary SMB solution providers. In addition, HP is investing in and working with Tech Data's Techselect network of SMB reseller partners.

"A low-cost Compaq-branded product, including warranty and support, gives customers an additional choice in the market," said Harry J. Harczak, Jr., executive vice president -- sales, CDW. "HP's ability to provide companies like CDW with cost-effective products means we can offer branded solutions to an even broader range of small- to medium-sized business customers."

The Compaq Evo D310v desktop PC is available in both Intel(R) Celeron(R) 1.7 GHz and Pentium(R) 4 1.8 GHz configurations. It features the Intel 845G chipset with Intel Extreme Graphics and standard USB 2.0 front access ports and is available with a CD-RW drive. More information about the Evo D310v is available at compaq.com.
