California Amplifier Earns 12 Cents/EPS In 2002 2nd Quarter
Thursday September 19, 4:34 pm ET

By Pat Maio, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

LOS ANGELES -(Dow Jones)- Wireless technology maker California Amplifier Inc. (NasdaqNM:CAMP - News) said Thursday that its fiscal second-quarter results beat Street estimates by three cents a share, fueled by tight control of expenses and higher demand for satellite products.

In its quarter ended Aug. 31, the Camarillo, Calif.-based company reported profit of $1.8 million, or 12 cents a share, on revenue of $27.5 million. This compares with profit of $465,000, or 3 cents, on revenue of $24.7 million, in the year-earlier period.

A survey of analysts by Thomson First Call estimated earnings per share of 9 cents on revenue of $24 million in the company's second fiscal quarter.

"These improved results were related primarily to a stronger than originally anticipated demand for certain higher value-added satellite products and also continued tight control of expenses," said Fred Sturm, president and chief executive of California Amplifier.
