Bombardier Transportation has received an order from the rolling stock company Transitio in Sweden for the supply of 10 two-car electric multiple units (EMUs) Regina. The order is valued at approximately $82 million Cdn. Deliveries are scheduled to start by the end of 2003. The new order brings the total number of Regina-type EMUs ordered to 65 trains, 139 cars. Bombardier Transportation and the British rolling stock manufacturer Brush Traction have been commissioned by the operator Eurotunnel to modernise 37 locomotives. The total value of this work is approximately $244 million Cdn, whilst the value for Bombardier is approximately $135 million Cdn. The modernisation activities will take place between February 2003 and April 2009, prolonging the life of the locomotives by further 30 years and increasing their power from 5.6 MW to 7 MW. In addition, an option exists to upgrade another 14 locomotives. In Asia, Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a contract for the 10-year overhaul of 96 metro cars operated by Shanghai Metro Operation Corporation (SMOC), PR China, on Line 1. The total value of the contract is approximately $17 million Cdn. Bombardier will provide the technical support and material for the overhaul, which will be made in SMOC's workshop in Shanghai. Deliveries of the refurbished vehicles will commence in 2002 and end in 2005. The trains were originally delivered in 1992 by the GSMG consortium with Bombardier as the consortium leader.
