When I travel around Oahu, I am impressed by the number of Philippino, Korean and Chinese Christian Churches.

I'm impressed by the exact same thing driving around Houston.

I flipped through that Atlantic Monthly article at B&N myself. It confirmed things I've read elsewhere and observed myself.

Christianity is in a growth phase all over the world. I've read elsewhere about an African church that has started missions in the US. When China began liberalizing people were surprised to find there were nearly a hundred million Christians there.

Pentecostalism or "charismatic" Christianity is taking over, growing not only in separate denominations and independent non-denominational churches but within the established churches. Within the past year, I was surprised to find the Southern Baptist chruch I grew up in has Pentecostal style services now. All the many instruments and "praise" songs instead of the Broadman hymnal songs. A shame to me - I liked the old Broadman hymns and find the "praise" music boring - it just goes on and on saying the same things over and over. But its very popular and the coming thing.
