Sarmad,
I am beginning to believe that there is a possibility iraq might surrender without a shot being fired. I have tried to put myself in saddams shoes. He must realize that everthing has changed since 9/11. US is like a mad dog coming for him. He has no defense. Self destruction is not an answer. What to do?? North Koreans may be answering that question.
Next step for saddam might be to accept humanitarian aid and flood the world markets with oil. Of course it goes without saying, he would have to give up WMD. He would need to ask for US $$ to do that adequately. Of course the US would have to hold its nose and either allow him to remain in power with some vague promises of elections down the road or we could give him a free pass from international prosecution and/or an island or perhaps a dry cleaning store in California, like the late General Ky of vietnam. Seriously though--you know iraq better than i do--is a deal like this possible? I think Saddam would love to stick the saudis in the eye with an oil glut--$15 oil sounds good to a world in recession. mike
