A hatchet job straight out.

But then this is the "bear house" and this is triple witching day.

Is it possible that there might be some penalty for false and misleading information put out "just in time"?

Unlikely, but perhaps someone in either the Administration or Congress might notice and if their contributors approve, act.

Not holding my breath for that though.

So what do we do?

In the real world, the powers of destruction have a limited time for doing damage.

There is a real world of growth which Qualcomm will prove.

Patience is all.

What will be particular fun will be what happens after all the full court press to show the economy is in the tank prior to the election - the "media" is in full swing to do this regardless of the facts.

Will it work?

Perhaps, perhaps not.

But after November the incentive is gone until the next election.

Suggest we watch and learn.

Best.

Chaz

Qualcomm Inc.

(QCOM - $25.72 - #)

Outperform; Volatility: Medium

KEY POINTS:

* On Thursday, Qualcomm reported strong chipset sales for the September quarter and delivered a positive outlook for the December quarter.

* The company now expects to ship 20 million MSM chipsets in its fiscal fourth quarter 2002 September quarter. This most recent outlook contrasts previous sales guidance for 18-19 million MSM chipsets in the September quarter.

* Consequently, we remain comfortable with our Qualcomm estimates for the September quarter and believe the company might show upside. Our PJC model projects fiscal fourth quarter 2002 revenues of $793.5 million and $0.26 earnings-per-share (consensus is $786.2 million and $0.26 earnings-per-share). We note to investors that our internal PJC Qualcomm forecast assumes 18.5 million chipsets sales for fiscal fourth quarter 2002.

* Looking into the fiscal first quarter 2003 December quarter, Qualcomm expects to ship "significantly higher than 20 million" units. For the December quarter, our PJC model forecasts sales of $770.0 million and $0.26 earnings-per-share (consensus is $811.3 million and $0.27 earnings-per-share).

* Qualcomm noted that September quarter strength in its MSM chipset business was largely driven by orders for its CDMA2000 1xRTT MSM chips. CDMA1xRTT chispets will reportedly account for 15 million of the 20 million chipsets expected to ship in the September quarter, which was in line with our forecast for CDMA 1xRTT chipsets.

* QCOM develops, markets and sells chipsets for CDMA handsets and infrastructure. QCOM's performance is dependent upon the adoption of technology based on CDMA. Any material change in demand for such solutions may have a material effect on QCOM's financial performance.
