Not involved, but intimately familiar with the era. I don't think the economics of that period are in any way comparable with the present. I suspect you will notice the bottom only after the fact....we won't be seeing a snap back into a bull market, but a slow meandering growth, retesting the bottom several times. I will hang in there because contrarian investing is my style. Also, there was an excellent piece in today's NYTimes worth reading on the bubble and post-bubble era: nytimes.com

Soooo ... do you think Mattson will survive? It's cheaper now than during the Asian crisis, but conditions might be worse now. This certainly does not seem to be a bad time to buy IF there is a good probability the company will stay in business until the next upturn. Cash is something like $60 million (after paying off STEAG), not counting how much they've lost this quarter. Think they can make it?
