OT re "must reading":

Interesting.

It would be very subversive, to try to get the US government to actually follow the principles stated in that document. For instance:

1. if we really believe in free trade and helping the world's poor, we would have to end tens of billions in agricultural subsidies (and quotas for steel and autos, and a whole lot else). There was a recent NYT article about how US and European domestic price support payments for sugar, cause widespread poverty in the third world.

2. if our foreign policy were really guided by the principles in that document, then Saudi Arabia couldn't possibly be a close longterm ally. The Saudis violate every principle of freedom, democracy, and self-expression.
