So since July, General Myers or his deputy, Gen. Peter Pace, have attended a series of classified meetings at the
White House with Vice President Dick Cheney, Mr. Rumsfeld, and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell.

The themes of Mr. Bush's speech to the United Nations were first conceived in those sessions, and military options
were also discussed.

looks more like a good guy bad buy... Baker comes out in nytimes or washington post cannot go ahead without talking united Nations.. meanwhile since July it was all part of the plan to do so... It seems it was to put the un and demos in a corner to demand the action and then Bush follows thru as planned.

Hi BigBull; Re: "Trash talk or Battle Plans? Battle Plan. So let it be written, so let it be done. ;o}"

Let me quote from the "secret" plan: "The Pentagon regards January or February as the most suitable for any ground attack ..."

This thread has been going on and on about how the war was going to start in February 2002, then May 2002, then the summer, then the fall, and now the rumor is February 2003. The attack date has slipped at the rate of one month per month.

People were just going on about how the exercises with Jordan were the beginning, how the US was going to attack on the anniversary of the WTC attack, that there was going to be an "October surprise", that the 100-plane attack was the beginning, etc. But now all that's just "trash talk", and supposedly the war will start in February.

I agree that this article describes the way that the US goes to war, not with a secret attack out of nowhere, but with the enlistment of allies (which isn't doing very well so far), with a call-up of the reserves (won't have to happen until after the elections), and with massive movement of men and supplies (no sign of that yet either).

But since this has now been postponed so that the build-up doesn't have to start until after the election, it also is quite possible that this whole thing is trash talking for political purposes.
