The New Republic
>>>>For now it appears Bush is inclined to believe the hawks' analysis, privileging the information provided by the INC's defectors and analyzed by the Pentagon over the warnings of his spies, diplomats, and generals. As the president prepares to make his case for attacking Iraq to the international community and Congress, he will argue that the time to act is now and that waiting would be more costly than quick action. Good example of "leak vs leak." And it is a fascinating story. Kind of thing I expect from Hersh or Safire. In a way, the "Intelligence Competition" is good. Keeps them both on their toes and arguing. "The Fog of Intelligence" has many of the characteristics of "The Fog of War". We won't know who is right until it's all over. And then it will depend on who's memoirs we read.
