One of the basic argument mistakes that even sophomores are taught to avoid is conflation, putting two things together that don't belong together. International Court issues are separate from environmental issues are separate from invading Iraq are separate from.

John, how many arguments have we seen, from the left, that make precisely this conflation? The US is unilateralist. It must be multilateralist. It must sign Kyoto and ICC. It must support only nice governments. It must change its foreign policy. Then people won't hate America. Hey, let's review scott's postings, I can find twenty or thirty columns saying this without looking hard. So who's doing the conflating here?

Den Beste is just trying to figure out what they think they're talking about. Accusing Den Beste of making this conflation up out of his own head is preposterous.
