A little "Marxist" there, Rascal? An enormous number have been Religious. There would not have been a Civil War without slavery. WWI was "Jingoism." Korea and Vietnam were Ideological.

Nadine, in all candor. Is this he reason for the Regime Change? Are some important deals screwed up?

All wars are economic.

Q1: is this the reason for regime change? yes, in a way -- the current situation has become completely untenable, in a nutshell. Project it ahead a few years, and we will either lose or fight at a much higher cost, in all probability.

Q2: are we fighting for "important deals"? no. We are fighting for control of Gulf oil, however, so that no one man can choke Asia and the US off (Asia is far more vulnerable than we are). But our immediate worry is, what does Saddam intend to do with all those terrorists he's been training at Salman Pak? What does he intend to do with the nukes he may have in a few months?

BTW, all wars are not economic; they have often been religious or ideological. What is the economic basis for the Arab/Israeli wars? the Arabs have screwed their own economies bigtime in pursuit of an ideological conflict, simply because they find Jewish sovereignty on any piece of what they consider "Arabia" an unendurable humiliation.
