I am surprised Roach said that, although I don't remember his speaking on the subject. In that piece he also said "the U.S. economy was in danger of falling back into recession if a U.S. attack on Iraq leads to a rise in the price of crude oil." Clearly, anyone who has been reading him knows that he thinks we're in deep shit regardless of Iraq, but he has to temper his words given his status as a spokesman for a large brokerage house. Maybe his comments on rates were similarly "adjusted."
