I would think picking up I-10 is the most direct route.
I plugged in "fastest route" so they all route me strictly on interstates. From Little Rock they either take I40 through Oklahoma then south from Albuquerque on I25 or they take I30 through Dallas to I20. Both pick up I10 on one side or the other of El Paso.

I see your point about Rt. 70. But my reason for taking the northern route is to see the Santa Fe/Taos/Las Vegas area. I actually booked a flight with a stopover in Albuquerque once so that I could visit them as potential retirement places but it snowed and I ended up spending several days in my hotel in Albuquerque. If not for that interest, I would take the southern route. And if I don't get moving soon, snow may make my decision for me again. <g>
