have ourselves injected with knowledge of everything. How boring.

Learning and understanding are one of the most important survival traits of our species. This is why the brain evolved to provide a powerful pleasurable reaction when a group of related factoids suddenly make sense, - the "Eureka" or "A-Ha" experience. This sensation from the temporal lobe gives a person a sense of satisfaction and stress release thereby encouraging repeated learning and understanding. It's unlikey to get boring.

Like other pleasure centers of the brain, this mechanism can be stimulated by other means. Some belief systems, like Scientogy, use modern bio-feedback equipment to learn how to achieve the feeling of understanding. Other spiritual movments use variations of meditation to quiet the thought process enough that a feeling of understanding can be felt from fairly minor associations. Mind drugs such as marijuana also stimulate this area leading to the user "understanding" the releationship between things that may not be very much related at all. A conditioned response of the temporal lobe is a major part of the mainstream religious experiences (although most major religions have many more facits).

The point is, most people can get a feeling that they have learned and understood and "have found it!" without actually having to understand completely. That doesn't mean that people quit learning, because it does have significant practical advantages.
