John,
I have finished catching up on the 9542 posts and now have 637 new ones to contend with. I want to congratulate you on being an integral and very important part of this thread. You inevitably generate heated responses and lively debate but you are never ignored. You are the master provocateur. You're like Listerine, they love yah but they hate yah. Keep up the good work....you make this thread work and we all know it. Please continue to bring out the best in people and arguments, yah hateful b*stard. <gg>

I don't think you are troubled by academics, you are troubled by folk who consider one of the requirements of a democracy is to persuade the public with argument and evidence.

Oh, John, nasty low blow, and so unlike you. I am not troubled by the fact that you are not persuaded. That's your prerogative. Find someone you trust and listen to him/her, since you don't trust this administration. I am persuaded, which is my prerogative.

3D. I went to the last day of "Flights of Fancy," a butterfly show at Brookside Garden in Wheaton, MD, taking notes of what to add to my own butterfly bed (ageratum, parsley, lantana), then wandered around enjoying dahlias, herbs, late roses, the fragrance garden, and the beautiful weather. Still no rain, I need to water and put tree gators on my baby apple trees, so just taking a breather, and won't engage much.

Most of the arguments on the thread right now seem rather caviling and petulant to me. Maybe things will improve.

Nahh, you don't trouble us, John. If you changed your position we would not have you to argue with. Keep up the "loyal opposition."
