evolution is a fundamental characteristic of life and the only way to stop it is through extinction.

Natural evolution is a long process. Selective evolution can be a relatively short process. When you speak of prosthesis or inserts, I would expect that it would take a rather long time to affect the entire species.

Though the importance of natural evolution, I expect will diminish. At some point, the technology will advance and society will not "object" to genetic manipulations. We'll end up with planned genetic breeding to improve the species. We'll start off breeding out defective genes or picking the sex of the child, then we'll move on to picking the better genes, and then enhanced genes. Selective evolution will far outspace any natural evolution.
