Russ,

I am a big fan of SUNW and Scott McNeally. After hearing him on TV last week, I am really interested in their forthcoming product - PC running Linux - meant to appeal to the ANTI-MSFT-Monopoly club.

Over the past 2 plus years, Scott McNeally is one tech company CEO who has been telling it like it is. He has given an honest, if depressing, outlook for his company, quarter over quarter. IMO the SUNW Linux-PC is going to go splat! BWDIK

Today I spoke with a friend who is the biggest SUNW fan I known. He runs the Computer department for his company (a major brokerage house). Up until recently they ran SUNW exclusively. They just made a major purchase and looking to shave costs went elsewhere. SUNW products have a fantastic performace history, but there are lots of cheaper choices out there.

Over the past several months,I have been very cautious about SUNW outlook in the near future (3-5-7 years).

- IBM and HP are competing heavily with SUNW and offer a smorgesbord (sp?) of products to the customer - far more than SUNW's portfolio.
- Compaq is already in the Linux PC arena.
- They also have DELL entering the server space. IMO Michael Dell will give SUNW some stiff competition.

FWIW I have a major (minor?) position in SUNW - bought in 1999 and held all the way down... and holding - too late to sell. :^(

Merry
