Yeah, and you eat up Bernard Lewis's endless extrapolations from the Ottoman Empire too. As I've said previously, Lewis has it all over Said on the marketability front, anyway. Predictions? A man hears what he wants to hear. That's not just a problem with Lewis, of course, the CIA has long been good at adapting itself that way. That, and covert ops in lieu of actual intelligence gathering. Somehow, I don't see things getting better before they get worse on the "intelligence" front.

As for academic warfare, I somehow doubt it ever approaches the hostility that gets generated when the legions of bloviating pundits settle on a target, like they apparently have with Said. Is it time for another local episode of the two minute hate on that front?
