Ray to get a better appreciate of how the Panama Canal was built one has to go back further than these documents and events. Up until the turn of the Century (1900), what is Panama today was then a part of Colombia. When the various factions started an uprising to break away this section of land from Colombia and when the US threatened to send in our military and naval ships to attack the Colombia military....a truce was immediately signed. Guess where the truce was signed? Now remember! The upheaval and battles were fought by what are now Panamians and Colombians.....Yep! You guessed it...truce was signed on the decks of a US warship and mere months later, the US gave the newly formed Panama, a boat load of gold bullion for the rights to build a canal.

Does this remind of a recent little fiasco that happened in this same region...where as Shrub at first praised the events but when the President was restored to his office...backtracking was forced on Shrub.
