Westi,

Mike had lost 9 lbs of water weight over the weekend. The doctor was content with that, though has kept him on the 160 mg's of Lasix. The chest x-ray they took on Friday was clear, which pairs up nicely with the EKG on Friday having been good.

Some of the blood work done on Friday was to evaluate Kidney function. The doctor looked at Mike's creatinine clearance numbers. Out of context they don't mean much. So let me briefly explain it. The numbers were worse than they were a couple weeks ago when Mike had blood work done. The numbers went from 4.0 to 4.6. The normal numbers for this test are 0.9-1.4. I do know that at 4.0 the numbers are already indicating kidney function compromise, I think at 4.0 the kidneys are function at about 25% efficiency. When the numbers get up around the 6.0 area, the talk of dialysis starts and starting the process for the person to be put on the kidney transplant waiting list. I believe at 8.0 the kidneys are only functioning at a 12.5% efficiency rate, and there is definite need for dialysis. The doctors have told us these types of numbers and treatments associated with them are indeed part of our future. <sighs> Back to Friday, the doctor expected the numbers to be worse than the 4.6 result.

With that all said, the extreme weight gain still remains a mystery. His echocardiogram is scheduled for Oct 2, 2002. Mike goes back to the doctor in 2 weeks. Sometime in October, he will see the Kidney specialist again as well.
