"pernicious and racist"

Very poor article. The critic doesn't like "Facial Analysis" because it has a "Genetic" bias. Can't do that. Wouldn't be "Multicultural." Has to be based on the Culture or Margaret Meade might be wrong.

The Author of this article starts off by proving that Gladwell, who wrote the piece on Facial ID, wrote an article a few years about hormone replacement therapy that is not considered correct today. BFD. Since the guy specializes in writing about cutting edge stuff, that is bound to happen.

Then he sets up a "Straw Man" about it becoming accepted in Courts. What nonsense! It would never be more than an investigative tool, at best.

"Nature vs Nurture" has been so political today that if you say anything is due to, or based on genetics, you lay yourself open to being called a Nazi.

What a curious article. Ekman is the guy who Gladwell wrote about. Why attack Gladwell when your quarrel is with Ekman?

Gladwell didn't do the research on hormone replacement therapy, but he did accurately report the state of the scientific knowledge at the time. A lot of physicians turned out to be wrong. Why is that distorted into an indictment of Gladwell?

Weird.

As for the facial recognition, to argue that it's racial profiling is whacko. Ekman's thesis is that facial gestures are universal, that they transcend both culture and race.

Bizarre.
