>>What would you do to protect your home/family?<< Support the war on terrorism. It's been a priority not just in US, but for the whole world, however it sort of slipped off the radar with the Iraq push. Afganistan for instance is not just an US' issue, there's troops from all kinds of places there, trying to fulfil the mission.

>>One must remember that in Muslim countries a Father can and does cut the head off his own daughter<< As much as I despise and abhorr this, I dont think this is what makes us all unsafe. The top echelons in al-Quaeda certainly come from a different social environment (educated upper-middle class).

<One must remember that in Muslim countries a Father can and does cut the head off his own daughter if it is simply believed she was raped. This just happened recently when a Daughter was thought to have been raped by her Uncle. Now remember, nothing happened to the Uncle! The autopsy showed the girl was still a virgin yet their society praised the father for upholding the "honor" of the family.>

And young women are mutilated during a 'circumcision' at a certain age to keep them from enjoying sex too much. All over Northern and western Africa this is going on... in small, weak, poor countries. Are we in there helping???

Nawwwwww.... we don't give a rats ass!

What about millions of Rawandan's hacked to death with macheties in a WEEK???

Nawwww.... we don't give a RATS ASS!!!!

All this bullshit about mean old Muslim society as suddenly important when it suits the administrations goals is such a cruel joke. Amazing that after decades, suddenly the 'poor Afgan Women' became soooooo imporant! ROFLMAO!!!

I think we should get our asses up the Amazon and make sure those head shrinking tribes stop what they're doing PRONTO!

:)

Gee Joe,
In the greater context I gotta go with DAK on this one. It doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the realpolitik of the region. A red herring. BTW what happened to the uncle ?

Interesting to what lengths these folk go because of a great fear of women. It must be rough for them to feel so inferior that they must exercise such control. Sad. But as DAK points out this is nothing new. Suddenly it's news ?

Ho-Jo,

Re: Reduce this problem to your own home and family. What would you do to protect your home/family? The magnitude of the problem is immense.

This silly and banal debating trick is called reducto ad absurdum. Face facts. The likelihood of Osama Bin Laden coming out of the dark to attack your family or mine in the middle of the night is nil. This is a classic straw man argument that is only used by people who have no facts behind them. Feeling naked, fellah?

Re: "I for one applaud President Bush and his "stick".

I, for another, wish he would keep the damn snake in his pants. His game of "Mine's bigger than yours" is making a lot of arguments that Bush has the intellect of a fifth-grader appear to be right on the mark.

Re: If you think you are not sleeping at night our President has a very large "home" and a very large "family" to protect.

Gimme a frikkin' break, Joe. I'm feeling sleepless in Seattle because this world class a-hole is about to start WW III because "it'd be dang good fer bidness, 'n my buddies are all fer it."

Some of us realize the Bush is a completely clueless favored son who never ever read these words:

"I don't know what the weapons World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." -- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
