I think you and max have hit the crux of the difference between soccer and American Football.

When comparing the pros and cons, I was thinking from the player's point of view. Max's response was from the spectator's point of view.

Which is why the USA is "detached" in its sport world. If you had a national game like soccer, then everyone could join in, and think of sport as something to do, rather than something to watch. We could all play soccer together and be one big happy community <g>.

Seems apparent you don't know when your leg is getting yanked.:) I have played intranmural soccer. It it is physical, but visually it isn't going to catch on here. But, in truth, U.S. Football is visually an awesome game with a plethora of combinations of drama coming at you.
It would be THE WORLD sport IF it was affordable, which it is not and never will be.
What U.S.Football non-comprehenders don't know, it is as mental as it is physical; it is not random violence, it is exceedingly strategized and a many layered, complex game . max p.s. the beauty of of soccer is this. It only takes a group of kids in the back alleys/dirt roads with enough money for a soccer ball to start to master the game and thus is freely available. It is the most democratic of sports. And, yes, even i, can sense the skill and grace of it when i watch Brazil. i love Brazilian soccer!
