The pickup in motherboard shipments is confirmed by CSFB:

Our recent visit to Taiwan confirmed that two weeks into September, demand has resumed, albeit less robust than initially expected (see our Asia note dated 9/23/02). Foundries and other electronics companies would need to see
unprecedented Sept. growth to bring 3Q back up to seasonal levels (see exhibit 3). The lone exception is motherboards, which need to grow 10% versus historical growth of 15%. Relative strength in MB however does not seem to be
supported by PC data, which seems to indicate a more muted build is underway.
