Don't underestimate the power of the family survivors. They are not easily discredited as spy, or on the payroll. The American masses pays attention to them.
The media loves to give them face time and information can be obtained and presented in many ways. Subpeonas are the slowest and worst way to get info.

They'll put it out there and the powers will have to prove a negative.
