I am prepared to deal with levels of confidence, or of what one may call "settledness".

I think that you have found a most suitable word.

I am prepared to deal with levels of confidence, or of what one may call
"settledness", as a substitute for the term "absolute", which means without
qualification.

I am quite comfortable with that modification. It is pragmatically necessary, in fact, to avoid going mad.

We make many assumptions about levels of confidence, which move us from possibility to hypothesis to "fact." But the fact is still only a higher margin of confidence.

If this is an agreement, we have agreement.

And I will have a moderatly high degree of confidence that that is a fact.
