Fed keeps rates unchanged By Rex Nutting
The Federal Reserve kept its overnight interest rate unchanged at 1.75% Tuesday, despite mounting evidence that the economy is weakening. The Federal Open Market Committee acknowledged the risks to the economy in a statement following its closed-door meeting. The Fed said the economy was growing at a "moderate pace," but was not certain when its "accommodative policy" would lead to sustained growth. The vote was 10-2, with Gov. Edward Gramlich and Dallas Fed President voting against.
